Your bedroom is the one room you should feel most comfortable in. It’s where your day starts and ends, it’s where you relax, regain your energy and maintain your relationship. So here are a few tips to give your bedroom the makeover it deserves, and make it your perfect sanctuary!
Choose the right mattress.
Your comfort is nothing to sacrifice, even if you want to keep up with your budget. Why? Because a good mattress will be there for you every morning and every night for the next few year. If your current mattress is over 8 years old, you might want to consider getting a new one. There are many variations of mattress types, and you should take the time to consider the pros and cons of each type, as well as your budget. Whatever you decide, don’t be too hasty. This is definitely a decision you should sleep on it.
There are many things to consider when choosing the right bedding. What is the right fabric for you: cotton, linen, flannel, wool? You should definitely choose the one that is non-irritating and feels soft and gentle on your skin. If you have a dark bedroom, you might want to choose fabrics with sheen that can brighten up the entire space, and add a glamorous look. After you decide on the fabric, think about the color and pattern. If you want to create a relaxing atmosphere in your bedroom, try bedding in solid colors. It will add an elegant, hotel like, look to your bedroom.
If you prefer patterned bedding, try going with a pattern that incorporates colors from around the room, but stick with small doses of these colors so it won’t be too overwhelming. A good idea is to use only one patterned piece and add solid colors to the bedding set. That way you could refresh the look anytime you want, without having to replace the entire set.
Feng Shui bed placement.
I’m really into Feng Shui and I found that some simple guidelines really helped me create balance in my home and particularly my bedroom. The principles are very complexed, but you can certainly start with following some basic guidelines that create a big difference. When it comes to your bed placement, the ideal Feng Shui position is where you can see the door while you are in bed, but not in line with it. This means you should place your bed further from the door or diagonally from it. Try positioning your bed with a solid wall behind it, to create a powerful and stable energy around your bed. To create a balanced energy on both sides of the bed, add a nightstand on each side even if they don’t match, what important is that you have two pieces of furniture and that you leave enough space to access the bed from both sides.
Declutter the dresser top.
An overstuffed dresser top makes the entire room feel messy, but this can be solved easily! Start with putting back in place everything that doesn’t belong there - this means you should watch the habit of dumping laundry on top of your dresser. Fold it and put it away, it only takes a few minutes! You can corral small and easily tangled items by placing them in decorative boxes or baskets on your dresser. You can keep the top neat also by placing jewelry or accessories.
